Let us rejoice and be glad as we ring in the new year! Happy New Year St. James!

The sixth grade has been working diligently throughout the year. As we enter 2023, it is a time for students to reflect on their past and look forward to their futures. The sixth grade will begin the year by developing the skill of goal setting. Students who set goals for themselves will create a cycle of achievement that empowers their learning. The S.M.A.R.T. format for goal setting will aid them in this endeavor. S.M.A.R.T. is an acronym for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic/Relevant, and Time Based. The creation of such clear goals allows for students to create an action plan for success.

The sixth grade is digging through World History to unearth the fascinating creation of the world's earliest civilizations and what they have to teach us about societies today. We have most recently explored the civilizations within the Fertile Crescent, where we have discussed rulers and kings, and the policies that they enforced. Students were interested to hear the role that religion had played in forming these early empires and their governments!

In music class, the students have already learned how to write and perform divisions of rhythms; counting as small as the 16th note. They are able to write and identify pitches on a treble staff, and are currently practicing the bass staff. These skills enable them to learn to navigate the piano keyboard, perform notes, melodies, scales, and eventually chords. The sixth grade will take those skills to the next level with an electronic music project coming up in the future.

Continued success to all members of the St. James community; have a happy and healthy New Year, and may God bless you all!
