St Francis project

Welcome and “buzz on in” to Mrs. B.’s busy hive.  I’m very happy because the beginning of a new school year is always an exciting time for me.  I am full of anticipation and deeply grateful to have the opportunity to continue to be the first grade teacher at the Academy.  This year in particular because after a difficult previous year; we are finally together in class and learning is in full swing now. First grade is an important and exciting time in the life of a six year old.  It is an unbelievable year of growth both physically and academically.

Even though it’s only been a short time; we are off to a wonderful beginning. It’s amazing how quickly first graders adjust to their new classroom and routines. The children are adjusting well to our busy day.  Everyone is getting unpacked and ready to start the day independently now – backpacks are emptied, homework folders are placed in the designated baskets and notes are handed to me. Great job first grade!  As you can see, we are truly buzzing to learn.

We have so much to look forward to this year. We’ve begun our Wonders reading series, and we continue to learn more about reading strategies and improving our decoding skills.  We’re remembering to start our sentences with capital letters and end them with the proper punctuation.  We’ve just completed our math chapter on numbers and then we’re off to mastering our addition and subtraction facts. We also have some fun activities scheduled this month in science with apples and pumpkins.  If you take a look at the back of the church; you will see our St. Francis of Assisi projects which we did in Religion class.  We’re also excited because we have gym class twice a week this year.

We started this month with Picture Day and look forward to celebrating Halloween with our Halloween parade and the outdoor Halloween Happening.

As you can see, we’re off to a great start and we’ve many future accomplishments ahead of us!  This year promises to be filled with amazing growth and lots of fun!  Continue to stay tuned for additional news from the hive as we continue on our first grade journey.

Blessings to You,             Mrs. Joanne Bauman & Grade 1
