The students at the Academy of Saint James of the Marches are making GAINS, in

mind, body and spirit in the 2023-24 school year. We have seen progress in

strength and conditioning, coordination and cooperation throughout our entire

school body from pre-k to 8th grade. We have pushed the accelerator to the floor,

making it a positive habit, though at the start sputtered a bit with trepidation at the

challenge, this year with our fitness-testing happening on a monthly basis! We are

measuring a host of exercises including: sit-ups, burpees, jumping jacks and the

shuttle run in grades 1 through 7!

This year thus far our students have played numerous sports including: street

hockey, team handball, badminton and kickball. Our program in gym is based on the

foundations of callisthenic and agility exercises. All have made progress in bear

crawl and crab walk along with seeing our most significant improvement in jump

rope, particularly in our pre K and K classes where the mantras: “Hands up! Over the

top! Jump through!” with the jump rope in hand can be heard echoing throughout

the building.

If anyone has any unused gym equipment for donation in their basement or garage,

we would be willing to pick it up or have you drop it off and we promise it will be

put to good use! Recently, Emma and Brogan’s family dropped off a full sized ping

pong table that has been a TREMENDOUS hit, and which we are incredibly thankful

for, particularly during indoor recess.
