Every Monday, the lower grade classrooms echo with the sounds of singing and recorders.
We diligently prepare for our weekly school Mass by learning and practicing the hymns.
Then the students of 4 th and 3 rd grade are practicing the wonderful skill of reading notes to play some simple songs such as Merrily We Roll Along and Oh, When the Saints Go Marching In.
Grades Kindergarten through 2 nd also learn to participate in the weekly school Mass by learning to sing hymns or their refrains. Along with these, the younger ones enjoy playing music games and singing songs that introduce simple music concepts. Some examples are: singing phrases individually by playing a game called, “Doggie, Doggie”, using children’s xylophones to understand how to play a song; using scarves to follow music for expression and movement and playing a music game such as “The Farmer in the Dell” to experience patterns in music. I am grateful to share God’s Love with the children through the means of music.
